At least three people were killed and seven injured in a blast at an illegal cracker unit in Egra under West Bengal’s East Medinipur district Tuesday afternoon. Police sources said the building that housed the illegal cracker factory was completely destroyed in the blast. Local residents said they heard a sudden loud explosion from the factory in the Khadikul area of Egra. The impact of the explosion was such that dismembered bodies were found at a distance, they added. “Three people have died so far and at least six to seven persons are critically injured due to the explosion. The area has been cordoned off,” K Amarnath, Superintendent of Police (East Medinipur), told The Indian Express. The injured have been taken to a nearby hospital. A team from the Egra police station, firefighters, and bomb squad personnel are at the spot.
