FORMER chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee and a host of senior Left Front leaders, including CPM state secretary Biman Bose, are likely to lead the ‘law violation’ programme that is scheduled to be held on Friday in central Kolkata in what is apprehended to be a confrontation between the violators and the police.

The Kolkata Police last week issued a ban on law violation programmes by political parties in the heart of the city.

However, both the CPM and the BJP had declared law violation programmes on May 31 and June1,respectively.

Left Front chairman Biman Bose,Forward Bloc general secretary Ashok Ghosh and CPI state secretary Manju Kumar Majumdar would lead the Friday programme. Despite being unwell,Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has expressed his wish to be present at the law violation programme, said a source in CPM.

The Left parties would gather at the Rani Rashmani Avenue at 3 pm and hold a meeting. The party has, however, not yet disclosed the shape of the law violation programme and from where it will start.

Biman Bose said,“Violation of law will take place in two places in every district. This is our democratic right and we will not let go of it.”

Asked about the venue,he said,“The Intelligence branch of Kolkata Police are trying to find out from where are we going to start violating law and what would be the shape of the programme. But we have decided to disclose our plan only tomorrow after the meeting is over.”

“We have permission to hold the meeting at RR Avenue. For law violation, however,no permission is required,” added Bose.

A senior police official, requesting anonymity, said,“We have earlier cleared our stand on law violation programmes. It is banned in the city. If any political party tries to violate law and trigger a law and order problem in the city, the police will act according to the law.”
