The CBI in its probe status of Nandigram firing case has told the Calcutta High Court that it is still awaiting the state government’s nod to prosecute the police officers responsible for opening fire at the protesters in Nandigram on March 14,2007 that claimed 14 lives.

The Division Bench of Justice Ashim Kumar Banerjee and Justice Mrinal Kanti Chaudhury wanted to know the stand of the state government on the CBI’s request.

The report, which was placed on Thursday, stated that the central agency wrote a letter to the government on December 5 last year seeking the sanction to prosecute the officers. Later, the government sought clarification from the CBI on the issue. The CBI sent its clarification on April 17 this year. Since then, the state has not taken any action in the matter.
