‘Congress, CPM coming together to stave off crisis of existence’

“It is a crisis of existence for both Congress and CPM. Had it not been such a crisis, neither CPM would have sold its head off to Congress, nor Congress would have done so to CPM,” Mamata said.

STATING THAT Congress and CPM were forging an alliance in Bengal to stave off their “crisis of existence”, Trinamool Congress president and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday exuded confidence that her party will trounce the tie-up in the state Assembly elections.

“It is a crisis of existence for both Congress and CPM. Had it not been such a crisis, neither CPM would have sold its head off to Congress, nor Congress would have done so to CPM,” she said.

Asked about possible adding up of vote shares of the Congress and Left Front against her party, she said: “Nothing will happen. Rather, if they had fought separately, then there would have been a question of ideals, but here they have given up everything. Where there is no ideology, policy, nothing can flourish.”

Mamata asked the two parties to to form a joint government in Kerala. “I want to question Congress and CPM why they are fighting against each other in Kerala when they are having an alliance here in Bengal? They could have divided the seats between themselves in Kerala and formed a joint venture government and saved the EC’s money,” she added.

“The polls in Kerala is a farce. The Congress and the CPM could have shared the seats fifty-fifty…” Mamata said, adding that candidates of the “unholy” alliance in Bengal would lose their deposits.
