Ghosh had allegedly made comments that the actor was involved in a chit fund scam and left TMC to join the BJP to save himself from investigation.Actor and BJP leader Mithun Chakraborty has filed a defamation case of Rs 100 crore against TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh in the Calcutta High Court.
According to sources, Mithun has claimed that Ghosh purposefully made untrue and malicious comments against him and his family out of political vendetta. Ghosh had allegedly made comments that the actor was involved in a chit fund scam and left TMC to join the BJP to save himself from investigation.
In the petition, Mithun also alleged that Ghosh spread rumours that his son was involved in a rape case, which was not true.
Stating that he is a former Rajya Sabha MP, Padma Bhushan, and Dadasaheb Phalke awardee, Mithun said that comments made by the TMC leader damaged his and his family’s “honour and social status”.
He also claimed that the comments affected him professionally in his film and advertising career.
Sources said that he paid Rs 50,000 as court fees. The court has not yet announced the date for the hearing. However, according to sources, the case may come up for hearing next week.
Meanwhile, Ghosh said that he was also going to file a defamation suit against the actor-turned-politician. “I am yet to receive any notice, but I have heard that he has filed a defamation case of Rs 100 crore. I would like to say that I have also filed a case against him and will send the notice to him soon,” Ghosh said.
“A person who keeps on changing parties has filed a defamation suit against me. In his youth days, he was a Naxal, then joined Shiv Sena and was a TMC MP, and now in the BJP. He has no respect or position anywhere. I was just waiting for this situation so that I can take all the documents in the chit fund cases and will give a prayer that all the cases be handed over to the CBI for investigation. He has invited this on himself. I will see him in court,” Ghosh added.
