Amid fog and rain, mercury rises in Kolkata

Even as the Met forecast of rain and dense fog turned true on Thursday, Kolkata’s minimum temperature rose by three degrees Celsius.

The state capital’s minimum and maximum temperatures were recorded as 20.3 degrees Celsius and 16.3 degrees Celsius respectively.

“Gradually with the time, chances of rainfall is expected to increase in Howrah, Hooghly and Kolkata. The skies are expected to clear up and moderate fog will continue till Saturday,” said an official at Regional Meteorological Centre, Alipore.

“Around 6.30 am, the visibility reduced to 800 meters but gradually improved to 15-1,600 meters as the day progressed.” said the official.

Other districts which were enveloped by dense fog were Hooghly, Jhargram, Purba and Paschim Medinipur, South and North 24 Parganas, Birbhum, Bankura, Nadia, Purba and Paschim Bardhaman, and Purulia.

In Purulia, which was among the coldest districts in the state this week, light to moderate rain is likely at a few places on Friday.

Meanwhile, in Darjeeling, there is likelihood of snow and rainfall.
