What was projected to be a gala show in which Union External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Bollywood star Mithun Chakraborty were supposed to jointly address a rally at the Barabagan ground in Jangipur on Friday, ended in utter chaos with the actor leaving the dais in a huff.

Mukherjee, after being informed of the pandemonium, did not even go to the rally. Later Mithun came on the stage flanked by Behrampore MP Adhir Choudhury and other Congress leaders and waved to the crowd. As he began speaking, the microphone developed a snag and enthusiastic supporters invaded the dais. Mithun was escorted away from the meeting ground by security personnel, who had to resort to lathicharge to ward off the crowd.

Said 16-year-old Shahidul Islam,who travelled 30

km all the way from Lalgola: “I am a great fan of Mithunda. I wanted to see him but couldn’t.”

Before entering Behrampore, the actor was felicitated by Congress supporters at Nabagram and Sagardighi. “I am overwhelmed by your love. Pranabda will definitely win,” Mithun said.

After the fiasco at Jangipur, the two came together at another rally in Aurangabad. And there Mithun played to the gallery by uttering dialogues of his film.
