With TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee most likely to not appear before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officials in Kolkata on Tuesday, sources in the central probe agency said they are preparing to send him another notice in the school recruitment case.

The ED sources said that its Delhi headquarters have sought unedited video footage of Abhishek’s last Thursday remarks where he said that he would not appear before the ED and called it a “waste of time”.

“I will not be able to appear before the ED as my Jono Sanjog Yatra is going on… This yatra will conclude on June 16 at Kakdwip in South 24 Parganas district. I don’t have time to waste these 7 to 8 days. After the yatra is over, I will be busy with my party’s preparation for the panchayat polls. I will not have time to spend hours in the ED or the CBI office. Therefore, I will not be able to appear for questioning before July 8 panchayat polls,” Abhishek had said at Kaliganj in Nadia district on June 8.

“Once the panchayat election is over, I will definitely appear before the agency whenever they will call me. Let me make it very clear, I will not be appearing for questioning and waste 10 to 12 hours of my day. I am not anyone’s servant that every time I have to attend such summons,” he had said.
The TMC MP from Diamond Harbour, who is considered second-in-command of the party, made the remarks after he was summoned in the alleged school recruitment scam. Hours before that, his wife was questioned by the ED in connection with the coal pilferage case.

“I don’t blame the ED and CBI officers. I have no grudge or complaints against them as they are working under compulsion. But this is an attempt to harass my family members and stall my Jan Sanjog Yatra. This is being done by the BJP to stop me from reaching out to the people,” he had added.

Sources in the ED said that they want to question him in connection with a letter of TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh.
