With an aim to strengthen anti-Maoist operations in West Midnapore,Purulia and Bankura before the 2011 Assembly elections,the state government has decided to set up a dozen more camps in the three districts.
We have decided to set up 12 more camps in the three districts. We will have two CRPF battalions deployed in the districts. A major part of the forces will be posted in West Midnapore, said DGP Bhupinder Singh.
Senior officers point out that several areas on the state borders are still unguarded and pose a serious threat to security.
The areas in Gopiballavpur and Nayaygram are still unguarded. These two places are emerging as Maoist strongholds, said a senior officer.
Pointing out that Maoists have started shifting base from Lalgarh to these areas,the officer added: Lalgarh,the core area of the Maoists till now,has almost become incident-free these days as Maoists have started moving towards new areas.
IG (CRPF),eastern sector,Nageswar Rao confirmed that two battalions from Nagaland will join the security forces in the three districts.
