A powerful explosion took place behind a place of worship in border Poonch district’s Surankote town in Jammu and Kashmir late Wednesday evening. Police confirmed the incident and said that they are investigating the matter. Meanwhile, sources said that the explosion appears to have been caused by a grenade apparently thrown by someone towards the place of worship where some construction work was already in progress. However, no one was injured, but the explosion triggered panic in the area. Local people in large numbers gathered at the spot. Senior police officers including Poonch SDPO Vinay Sharma had reached there. The police and security forces had cordoned off the area. Forensic experts were also called to ascertain the nature of explosion, sources added.
