One militant was killed and a few others were holed up in a cordon laid by security forces in Jammu and Kashmir’s Khwas area of border Rajouri district late Saturday evening.
A senior police officer, who confirmed the killing of a militant, said late Saturday night that the operation was in progress.
Sources said Khwas is located on the route taken by infiltrating militants to proceed to Kashmir.
Sources said the militants opened fire on sighting some local residents. No one was injured. In return, village defence guards opened fire. The subsequent encounter started during a cordon and search operation by police and the Army in the village following information about the presence of militants there, officials said.
