Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said his administration will soon bring a provision to provide land to landless families in the Union Territory so that they can build their own houses. Addressing a function organized to celebrate the 450th Prakash Utsav of Goswami Shri Guru Nabha Dass Ji Maharaj at Teachers' Bhawan here, he said, “I have to say with great pain that there is no law to give land to the poor here. (I) Don’t know what kind of state it was. In reality, there has been no such law. We are now making the law. … (We) will definitely make it.” Stating that he was aware of the difficulties faced by the administration in getting houses constructed for the poor under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), LG added, “There are many poor people who do not have land. And when they have no land, where will they construct their house?’’ “This law will be made very soon. And all those poor people who do not have land will be provided land and their houses will be built under PMAY,” he said, adding that the administration will also provide land for building a Smriti Bhavan in memory of Goswami Shri Guru Nabha Dass Ji Maharaj. Referring to reserved category employees from Jammu who have been posted in Kashmir, Sinha talked about his administration’s plan to provide them land in the Valley for construction of their houses. Reserved category employees posted in Kashmir have been agitating in Jammu for over nine months now, demanding transfer to Jammu.
