A Hyderabad resident has been arrested nearly 10 days after his wife's death as police investigation concluded that he murdered the woman. The accused, Jatavath Tarun, 24, confessed that he strangled his wife Jhansi, 20, on May 20 after she refused to have sex with him, police said. Parents to a three-year-old boy and a one-month-old girl, Tarun and Jhansi – who are originally from Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district – were married for two years. The couple moved to Hyderabad in search of a livelihood and were living in Khaja Bagh near Saidabad, the police said. When contacted, Saidabad Station House Officer K Subba Rami Reddy said the case was initially registered under section 174 of CrPC (inquiry and report on suicide, etc) which has now been altered to murder. “At the time of the woman's death, her husband was the only person in the room. Based on post-mortem examination and questioning, we got his confession. He killed his wife due to a sudden provocation,” the SHO added. Jhansi's parents had raised suspicion about the death and a case was registered at Saidabad police station on her father Nenavath Rekiya's complaint. According to the police, Tarun did not initially share what transpired but later, on questioning, he revealed that he wanted to get intimate with his wife, but Jhansi refused saying she was tired. When he forced himself on her, she shouted and pushed him away. In a fit of rage, he strangled her and she fell unconscious. Though Jhansi was immediately rushed to a hospital, doctors declared her dead. Tarun reportedly told relatives that she died of natural causes. The post-mortem report, however, indicated that she died of asphyxiation, the police said. Tarun was subsequently arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
