Hyderabad Student Shot Dead in US: Pole Chandrashekar, 27, a student from LB Nagar area of Hyderabad, was shot dead Friday night while working at a fuel station in Denton, Texas. Chandrashekar’s family received the news on Saturday afternoon. Chandrashekar was on an F1 visa in the US. “He completed his Master’s degree in dental surgery in the US and was looking for a job for the past six months. He was working at the gas station part-time,” his brother Damodar said. “Our father passed away four years ago. Our mother is heartbroken that she has now lost my brother,” said Damodar. A family friend, Shivakumar, said that the body was identified because the gas station manager had Chandrashekar’s passport. “When the authorities from the US called, the family went into shock,” Shivakumar said. “If the Ministry of External Affairs helps bring his body back home, we will be grateful.” The family also said that they would like to know the reason behind the attack. "We hardly know anything about what transpired. We hope the authorities will tell us why he was shot at in the first place," Shivakumar said. Chandrashekar had previously completed his Bachelor's in Dental Surgery from Hyderabad before going to the US. “He was a brilliant Dalit student from our LB Nagar area. He had big dreams and had gone to the US for a Master’s degree. His parents are heartbroken; it is an unimaginable tragedy for them,’’ T Harish Rao, Bharat Rashtra Samiti leader and former minister, said. LB Nagar BRS MLA Sudhir Reddy and Rao visited Chandrashekar’s house to meet the family. Rao appealed to the state government to take steps to repatriate the body to India immediately. Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy said, “The death of Chandrasekhar in the shooting has caused deep shock and grief. I pray to God that his soul may rest in peace and express my deepest condolences to the family members. The government stands by Chandrasekhar's family. We will provide all possible assistance to bring the body back to Hyderabad.”
