Trump tariffs expected to pinch key Andhra industry, CM Naidu pitches to make state a global food processing hub
Asks investors in food processing sector to consider Andhra Pradesh as investment destination, as it has five climatic zones and is rich in both aquaculture and horticulture production

As US President Donald Trump’s tariffs against India take effect, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has requested Indian industries to take advantage of food processing hubs in his state. The state’s aqua farming industry is expected to take a significant hit due to Trump’s enhanced tariffs, but Naidu, who did not mention the new US tariffs specifically, said that Andhra Pradesh would soon emerge as a global food processing hub with over 6,000 functional units.
Speaking at Visakhapatnam on Friday as the chief guest of the India Food Manufacturing Summit organised by the Trade Promotion Council of India, Naidu asked investors in the food processing sector to consider Andhra Pradesh as an investment destination, as it has added advantages with five climatic zones and is rich in both aquaculture and horticulture production.
Naidu stated that India is rapidly emerging as a global food processing hub, and Andhra Pradesh contributes 9 per cent of the country’s food processing output, valued at $49 billion.
Earlier this month, Naidu had taken aim at Trump, saying that India’s economy is the fastest growing in the world and the country cannot be stopped by “some people causing difficulties”.
Referring to Trump’s dead economy jibe on India, Naidu, an NDA ally at the Centre and in Andhra Pradesh, had said that the future will decide which economy declined and which stood strong.
On Friday, Naidu said that by contributing 15.6 per cent of the country’s total fruit production, his state emerged as the fruit capital of India. “In addition, it contributes around 32 per cent of marine seafood exports and covers 2.26 lakh acres under aquaculture in the country. It ranks first in registered food industries with 6,000 functional units,” Naidu said.
The Chief Minister said investors in the state will get clearances immediately under a single-window structure. The state has a target to attract Rs 30,000 crore of investments and create 3 lakh jobs in the next five years.
