The Andhra Pradesh government has started providing basic training for TOEFL and other competitive exams to Class 3 students in government schools as part of education reforms.
At a meeting with education officials, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy said, “Since we are training Class 3 children on TOEFL, we must now focus on improving language skills of Class 2 students.”
“We should use alternative teaching methods to boost English pronunciation and phonetics for PP 1 and PP 2 children in foundation schools,” he added.
After representatives of Montessori schools discussed their system, the CM suggested officials visit such schools to see if anything can be implemented in government institutions.
To strengthen higher education, Reddy also approved filling all existing vacancies in universities and IIITs through regular recruitment.
The Education Department will fill 2,635 Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor posts in universities along with 660 similar vacancies in IIITs. Over 51,000 posts have already been filled in the Medical and Health Department.
The AP Public Service Commission will conduct the appointment process, including online exams and interviews, by November 15.
“As we have filled up 51,000 posts in the Medical and Health Department, we should fill up existing vacancies in the Universities also on regular basis,” CM Jagan said.
The CM said universities will perform best with full faculty. The selection must be purely merit-based to ensure quality education, he added.
Education Minister B Satyanarayana stated contract candidates should get priority along with 10 extra weightage marks at one mark per year.
Officials said notification will be issued on August 23, online exams held in September, results declared by October 10, and final list by November 15 after interviews.
The moves aim to strengthen school and higher education through early coaching and filling vacant positions in Andhra Pradesh.
