Union Home Minister Amit Shah will review the 54th Raising Day parade of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the National Industrial Security Academy (NISA) campus in Hyderabad’s Hakimpet on Sunday.
This is the first time the CISF is holding raising day celebrations outside the Delhi national capital region (NCR), said Piyush Anand, Additional DG (North), adding that it comes in the wake of a government decision to hold Raising Day celebrations at different locations across the country. According to him, the government felt the Raising Day celebrations should pan out as the CISF is a pan-India force and people from all across the country should see the force up close. The venue will be changed every year.
“NISA is a Centre of Excellence and we have excellent facilities here… We want to show off our facilities. NISA is a feather in our cap… Though we have about eight training facilities all over the country – six RTCs (recruit training centres), a fire service training institute and NISA – this is the best,” Anand told The Indian Express.
On Sunday morning, the Home Minister will inaugurate a new firing range at NISA and review demonstrations. After the Raising Day parade, three specialised demonstrations by trained personnel have been planned as part of the celebrations.
An official said the CISF’s Special Tactics and Training Wing (STTW) will showcase the response of its unit personnel in the event of a Maoist attack on any of the protected installations. “This STTW demo will have three elements such as firepower, bomb disposal and detection unit, and canine support,” he said.
Another demonstration involves the showcase of the firefighting capabilities of CISF personnel. And the last one will be a show of kalaripayattu (a form of combative martial arts unique to Kerala) by 172 women commandos of the CISF.
Apart from the Fire Service Training Institute (FSTI) which is located inside the NISA campus, the CISF has RTCs in Madhya Pradesh’s Barwaha, Odisha’s Mundali, at Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu, Behrore and Deoli in Rajasthan, and at Bhilai in Chhattisgarh.
From a small organisation of 3,000-odd personnel in 1969, the CISF has grown manifold in terms of credibility and capability over the last 53 years, said Additional Director General (South) Jagbir Singh, while addressing the media at NISA on Friday.
With more than 1.7 lakh personnel providing security cover to 354 vital installations across the country, including 66 airports, seaports, nuclear and space installations, steel and power plants, and the Delhi Metro, the CISF is also engaged in providing firefighting services at 111 installations, he added.
Among all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), the CISF has the largest percentage of women officers and personnel, from constable to inspector general, with 10,031 women personnel who comprise 6.7 per cent of its strength. Additional DG Anand said CISF is the only paramilitary force where 78 per cent of the expenses are borne by the local unit and not the government.
