Two days after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Yuvrajsinh Jadeja alleged that the question paper of the semester VI examination of the Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) course at Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji Bhavnagar University (MKBU) was leaked, the police on Tuesday said that they have detained the principal of a college and a few students.
Officers of Nilamag police station in Bhavnagar city said that they have detained Amit Galani, principal of G L Kakadia College of Commerce and Management, and a few students.
Police inspector P D Parmar of Nilambag police station said, “The principal turned up at the police station with his mobile phone saying it was used by some students to leak the paper. However, the principal is not supposed to click photos of the question paper with his phone and he can’t escape criminal liability by saying that someone else used his mobile phone.”
Parmar added, “We had launched an inquiry after an officer of the Bhavnagar university filed a complaint following Yuvrajsinh Jadeja’s tweet on Sunday claiming the paper had been leaked. We have detained the principal and a few students who were on the campus of the college.”
Located in Kalvibid area of Bhavnagar city, G L Kakadia College of Commerce and Management is a part of the Sardar Patel Educational Institute, a reputed educational campus in the city.
Jadeja, who identifies himself as a student leader, had tweeted on Sunday evening, claiming that the question paper for Semester VI examination of Finance Account XII (Management Accounting II) was leaked. The MKBU had administered the question paper to B.Com programme students between 3:30 pm and 6 pm. He had also posted screenshots of a mobile phone showing photos of the question paper on that device at 3:12 pm on Sunday, as proof that the paper had been leaked before the scheduled start of the examination.
“We had also called Jadeja to record his statement. He responded and got his statement recorded on Monday,” Parmar, adding, “We are now in the process of registering an FIR in this connection.”
Incidentally, the MKBU had said on Monday that it had formed a three-member special investigation team (SIT) to probe the matter parallel to the police inquiry in the alleged paper leak.
On Tuesday, Jadeja posted on social media, claiming the paper had been leaked by using principal Galani’s mobile phone and named a student, who, Jadeja claimed, was the first one to receive the leaked paper.
