Reflecting a surprising trend,as many as 420 seats are still lying vacant in five engineering colleges even after the third round of counselling. Popular branches like Electrical and Information Technology (IT) have also failed to attract students. Of the total 1435 allotments, only 1016 students reported on the campus of PEC University of Technology and took admission in the concerned institutes and branches. The results of the counselling session were declared on Tuesday.
To fill these 420 vacant seats, the Joint Admission Committee (JAC) of PEC University of Technology had decided to conduct a final round of counselling.
Apart from PEC,the four other engineering institutes are University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) at PU,Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET),Sector 26,University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology (UICET) at PU,Swami Sarvanand Giri,Panjab University,Regional Centre (SSGPURC),Hoshiarpur and Chandigarh College of Architecture (CCA),Sector 12.
The concerned authorities say with the entire procedure being online this year, the admission process and filling of seats took time. The Convenor of Joint Admission Committee (JAC) Dr Sanjeev Kumar said that the committee is hoping to fill all the seats in the physical counselling to be scheduled soon.
