The Delhi Police has arrested five persons for allegedly stealing cash from a jewellery shop in Central Delhi’s Karol Bagh on October 30 after tying up one of its employees with adhesive tape, the police said.
DCP (Central) Sanjay Kumar Sain said on October 30, around 4 pm, the police were informed about the robbery at the shop located at Beadon Pura in Karol Bagh. The complainant, Mukesh Kumar, an accountant at the shop, said while he handles the business at the store, the owner usually looks after another store at Narayana Loha Mandi.
On the day of the robbery, Rs 39 lakh in cash was kept at the shop. Around 3 pm, when Kumar was busy at work, three unknown persons forcefully entered and restrained him inside his cabin.
“They snatched his mobile phone and tied him up using adhesive tape and rope. The robbers then ransacked the office in search of cash and ran away with Rs 39 lakh cash,” said the DCP.
During the investigation, the police found pieces of rope, gloves and a tape bearing the mark of Zomato on it lying on the spot. The CCTV footage of the area was analysed and five persons were seen at the crime spot. A bike was also seen being used by the accused.
The police zeroed in on the registration number and found that the two-wheeler is owned by one Rajesh Kumar Saini. After an extensive manhunt, the police arrested Saini and his aide Deepak Kumar. On their instance, three other accused, Dipender Kumar, Deepak Kumar Chauhan and Kamal were held.
While Kamal works with Zomato, Deepak works as a driver with the UP Transport Corporation.
