Yati Narsinghanand
Nearly three weeks after it was reported that Yati Narsinghanand, the controversial head priest of Dasna Devi Temple in Ghaziabad, was allegedly detained by the Uttar Pradesh Police on October 5 for making objectionable remarks against Islam, Police Commissioner Ajay Kumar Mishra said on Friday that Narsinghanand was not detained by the Ghaziabad Police in the case.
This comes after a four-minute video clip that the police received on Friday, purportedly showed Narsinghanand requesting Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to release him from the “unconstitutional and illegal house arrest by the UP Police”.
“Maharaj, kripa karke mujhe iss Uttar Pradesh Police ki asanvaidahanik, gairkanooni nazar bandi se chutkara dilayiye (Maharaj, I request you to set me free from UP Police’s unconstitutional, illegal house arrest),” Narsinghanand could be seen saying in the video.

Narsinghanand was allegedly detained after his objectionable remarks against Islam, allegedly made in Ghaziabad on September 29, triggered protests and police complaints in several states besides UP, including Maharashtra and Telangana and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
He was booked by the Ghaziabad Police on October 3 under sections 299 (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings), 302 (intentionally hurting religious sentiments) and 197 (actions that harm national integration) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Speaking to The Indian Express on Friday, Mishra said, “Narsinghanand was not detained by the Ghaziabad Police… When a person is detained, from his watch to cellphone, everything is taken from him. But it seems he was at a five-star hotel.”
Asked about the purported video, Mishra said, “He (Narsinghanand) is saying he has been detained by the UP Police. Why is he not saying which district police has detained him and how did he get access to a cellphone to shoot the video?”

“I am on the side of justice. I want to gather proof of whatever I have spoken against Mohammad and his followers and present it before the court so that justice could be served. You cannot declare me a criminal without listening to my side and I cannot do that being under house arrest,” he is heard saying.
Addressing Adityanath as “the sun of Sanatan Dharma”, Narsinghanand is heard saying that if he is not rescued from house arrest, he would be “killed by the followers of Islam”. “I want to present my side before my death,” he added.
Further, in the video, he could also be seen saying that he wants to tell the HC that “Islam and its followers have committed heinous crimes against not only Sanatan Dharma but also the entire world”. “They have killed many people and committed crimes against women and broken temples and mutts. I want to present all this proof before the court,” he is heard saying.
