Woman jumps off balcony, police catch her in blanket

Police said the woman later returned to her house and refused to speak with anyone.

Three policemen and two residents of Punjabi Bagh, West Delhi, saved the life of a woman who had jumped off the third floor balcony of a building in the area on Friday.

In a near-miraculous rescue, police said they had used a blanket to break the woman’s fall.
The 46-year-old woman attempted suicide after her estranged husband came to meet her after several years, police said.

Police said the woman had a heated argument with the man, locked him out of the house and stood  on the third-floor balcony, from where she threatened to jump.

“We remembered that we had a blanket inside our PCR van. I asked my colleagues to get the blanket and with the help of two residents, held it out to ensure that the woman did not fall on the ground,” Sub-inspector Sukhbir Singh said.

Police said the woman later returned to her house and refused to speak with anyone. Police said no case was registered because no one filed a complaint.
