Three policemen and two residents of Punjabi Bagh, West Delhi, saved the life of a woman who had jumped off the third floor balcony of a building in the area on Friday.
In a near-miraculous rescue, police said they had used a blanket to break the woman’s fall.
The 46-year-old woman attempted suicide after her estranged husband came to meet her after several years, police said.
Police said the woman had a heated argument with the man, locked him out of the house and stood on the third-floor balcony, from where she threatened to jump.
Residents gathered at the spot. The police control room was informed around 5.40 pm.
Sub-inspector Sukhbir Singh, constables J B Sahai and Ajay Singh reached the spot. Sukhbir Singh was praised by residents for his quick thinking that saved the woman’s life.
“We remembered that we had a blanket inside our PCR van. I asked my colleagues to get the blanket and with the help of two residents, held it out to ensure that the woman did not fall on the ground,” Sub-inspector Sukhbir Singh said.
Police said the woman later returned to her house and refused to speak with anyone. Police said no case was registered because no one filed a complaint.
