The countdown to the World Cup is possibly the best time to draw attention to a little-known sport — women’s cricket! That’s what the coffee table book,Women’s Cricket World 1745-2013,aims to do. Authored by Anjum Chopra, former captain of India’s women cricket squad, and sports filmmaker Sunil Yash Kalra, the book was launched at Hyatt Regency a few days ago, amid frequent reminders that India is set to host the 2013 women’s cricket World Cup.

“Did you know that the first women’s cricket match was held in 1745 in Surrey?” asked Chopra, who spent almost six years researching for the book. More than 200 photographs are lavishly spread through the pages, offering an interesting tour that begins with women playing competitive cricket in skirts.
