Woman fights off robbers near bank in Ghaziabad

Singh,a social activist who runs an NGO,said she went to Punjab National Bank in Sector-19,Vasundhara around 11 am to withdraw cash.

“I withdrew Rs 1 lakh from the bank which I had to deposit in another bank. I think someone saw me count the cash and followed me from the bank,” said Singh.

Outside the bank,Singh took a rickshaw to go to the Sector 15 branch of the State Bank of India. As she approached the SBI branch,a motorcycle hit her rickshaw,Singh has told the police. One of the assailants wearing a helmet,allegedly tried to snatch the bag from her.

“I did not let go of the bag. The pillion rider then took out a sharp-edged weapon and tried to cut the bag’s strap. I fell on one side,but did not let the assailants take my bag. In the scuffle,the weapon slit my face. I was shouting for help but no one came forward,” Singh said.

She claimed a man driving by noticed the scuffle. “To help me,he hit the motorcycle from behind and it skid. Both the assailants fell but attacked me again,” Singh said.

“People had gathered at the spot assuming an accident had taken place. I was still holding on to one of the assailants,” Singh said.

According to the police one assailant fled on his bike. A case has been lodged against the assailant,who has not told the police his name yet,at the Indirapuram police station.
