After studying IAS officer Durga Shakti Nagpals reply to the chargesheet on the demolition of a wall of an under-construction mosque in Kadalpur village of Gautam Buddh Nagar on July 27,the UP government has decided to order a fact-finding inquiry.
Nagpal and Ravikant Singh, who was District Magistrate at the time of demolition, would be given a personal hearing before the inquiry officer, who would also record statements of Kadalpur villagers.
The inquiry has been ordered because the government was not satisfied with her reply. The facts mentioned by her in the reply,in the intelligence report and report of the then District Magistrate do not match on some crucial points. Thus, the decision was taken to order a fact-finding inquiry in the entire incident, a senior government official said.
Nagpal was suspended on July 27 on the charge of ordering demolition of the mosque wall during the month of Ramzan affecting the communal harmony in the area.
She was served a chargesheet by the UP government on August 4 and Nagpal submitted her reply on August 17.
Principal Secretary,Home,R M Srivastava has been made the inquiry officer and has been given 15 days to submit his report. Secretary,Home,Rakesh Chandra, will assist Srivastava in the inquiry.
I have been informed that I have to conduct an inquiry but I have not yet read the files, Srivastava said.
Both officials will visit Gautam Buddh Nagar to record statements of villagers and cross check land revenue records. They would also register statements of officers, including Durga Shakti Nagpal and Ravikant Singh.
