What began as routine vehicle checks on Saturday night near the Transport Nagar Crossing in the Phase-3 area of Noida turned into a brief yet intense police chase and then an encounter, ending in the arrest of a 25-year-old man. Dressed in the uniform of Uttar Pradesh Police, Amit alias Sukke, the accused, was allegedly extorting people by posing as a police officer.
According to DCP Central Noida Shakti Avasthi, Amit had been using the police uniform as a tool for intimidation. During questioning, he allegedly admitted to targeting common people, threatening to arrest them, unless they transferred money to him via digital platforms like Google Pay.
On Saturday, around midnight, the officers from Thana Phase-3 had set up a barricade near the TP Nagar crossing, and they spotted a motorcycle approaching. When signaled to stop, the biker turned the two-wheeler sharply and sped away.
An intense chase followed that led the policemen through the streets leading up to the Garhi roundabout. The accused allegedly pulled out a pistol and opened fire at a police team coming from the front. The officers retaliated, and in the exchange, the suspect was shot and injured in the leg.
Videos released by the Gautam Buddha Nagar Police show him limping and his pants stained with blood, as two policemen help him into a van, supporting him by the shoulders. He was immediately taken to a hospital for treatment.
Amit alias Sukke, a resident of Chitwana Sherpur village in Meerut, has been living in a rented room near a temple in Bahlolpur, Sector 63, said police.
Police recovered a .315 bore country-made pistol, two live cartridges, one spent shell, a UP Police uniform, a motorcycle with a fake number plate, and Rs 1,200 in cash from his possession.
Amit had at least two FIRs against him in the past, said officers. One was registered earlier at the Phase-3 police station under sections 205, 308(2), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He was booked for intimidating people sitting in a park. Another case dates back to 2024 in Meerut’s Parikshitgarh. Booked under sections 74, 352, 351(2) of BNS and the IT Act, he had been accused of taking pictures of a girl and uploading them on social media.
Police are now looking for his two accomplices. “We are looking for his aides. He and his two accomplices had been using the uniform to exploit people for money…the two others will also be arrested soon,” said Phase-3 Station House Officer, Dhruv Bhooshan.
