The Municipal Corporation of Delhi,as a single entity, will be announcing its last budget amendments on Tuesday. As councillors gave their suggestions on how to make Delhi a better place for its residents, each speech ended on a nostalgic note.
The accusations and blamegame took a backseat as councillors thanked the officials of various agencies for their support a few even mentioned the commissioners achievements in helping the councillors of BJP-led MCD.
I have been part of monolithic MCD for last 10 years, and it pains me to know that we all are uncertain about our future. This would be a historical event,it will be recorded in history how the MCD was trifurcated, said Sarita Choudhary,Deputy Chairperson of MCD Standing Committee.
As per councillors suggestions, sanitation facilities for women need to be improved.
There are not many womens toilets, and if there are, they are not maintained well, said Rekha Gupta, member of Standing Committee.
Other suggestions included making filing of house tax easier and checking delays in construction of parking lots. We have hundreds of parking lots, which have been planned and never took off. I would request the commissioner to appoint a senior officer to speed up the parking projects. In my area,a park was taken over to construct a parking lot, which never took off and the residents are devoid of a park now, said Choudhary.
A councillor also moved a proposal to ensure that each village has a cremation ground. We have 365 villages under MCD. They do not even have a tin shed in their cremation grounds. This is a request to allocate funds for cremation grounds in villages, said the councillor.
