Underpasses linking Noida to Ghaziabad inaugurated

Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav formally inaugurated a slew of projects in Ghaziabad on Tuesday.

Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav formally inaugurated a slew of projects in Ghaziabad on Tuesday. These include four underpasses that connect Noida and Ghaziabad. The underpasses are part of a collaboration between the Noida Authority and the Ghaziabad Development Authority to make the stretch between Kalindi Kunj and Ghaziabad, along National Highway 24,signal-free.

Yadav also inaugurated a park,a foot overbridge, and four link roads in the city.

While the first underpass is located at Kala Patthar Chowk, the other three are at CISF Chowk,ABES College Chowk and Shahpur Bamheta, respectively. An official said,“Commuters from Indirapuram can use the underpass to go to Noida and bypass the busy intersections of Noida Sectors 62 and 63. From CISF Chowk, travellers from Vasundhra and Vaishali can go straight to Noida, while the underpass at ABES College will cater to residents of the Crossing Republik Township. The one at Shahpur Bamheta also connects Noida and Ghaziabad.”

Officials said the underpasses were necessary as the population of Ghaziabad was set to increase. “Townships like the Crossing Republik will have over 50,000 residents and this would have lead to snarls on NH-24. These underpasses will relieve the pressure. The fourth underpass,is being built by the GDA.”

Officials said work is on to finalise the widening of NH-24 into six-lanes from the Delhi-UP border to Dasna Jail. “The Ministry of Surface Transport had proposed that the widening of the road and the elevation of the entire stretch be done simultaneously. Noida Authority and the GDA had objected to that as it would take too much time, and the volume of traffic is increasing rapidly. It would cause traffic snarls. A solution will be worked out soon,” a GDA official said.

The new link roads include one between district headquarters and Vivekananda Nagar bridge; Diamond crossing and NH-24; and two other service roads. The foot overbridge is at Vaishali and the park inaugurated is part of a green belt in Raj Nagar. The cost of all the infrastructure projects is around Rs 4 crore.
