Unauthorised structures in Central Zone demolished

At least 60 properties have been identified and due notices have been served to all under the DMC Act.

The South Municipal Corporation demolished unauthorised constructions in Central Zone, removing several structures constructed illegally. The Building department of the civic body, with the help of local police, demolished and sealed several properties in Central Zone.

Building department engineer Akeel Ahmad said despite numerous notices sent to the owners of these properties, mostly in Jamia Nagar, they refused to stop construction. “We had been requesting police deployment for a very long time to carry out the demolition, but it was not provided,” Ahmad said.

It was only after the Delhi High Court’s intervention that officials of the department were given adequate security cover to carry out the demolition. Ahmad said the High Court heard at least 12 writ petitions concerning illegal constructions before giving the go-ahead to the civic body.
