Two days after a massive fire broke out at a community centre in Northeast Delhis Nand Nagri area,80-year-old Nazira Nayak and 50-year-old Sonia succumbed to burns at GTB Hospital on Tuesday. With this,the death toll of the tragedy has gone up to 16. Doctors said Sonia had suffered 85 per cent burns. She had sustained highest burn percentage and despite best efforts,the infection spread very fast leading to her death, a senior doctor said. A resident of Hyderabad,Nazira had suffered 40 per cent burns. Stating that she died at 3 am on Tuesday,a hospital staffer said,Nazira did not respond to our best efforts at managing the infection,mainly due to a compromised immune system. Survival was especially difficult for her because of her age. Meanwhile,police managed to identify three more bodies kept at the hospital mortuary taking the number of identified victims to 11. Post-mortem examinations have been conducted on all the identified bodies,and they have been handed over to their chelas, a senior officer said. Majidan,a follower of deceased guru Ishara Naik from Kolkata,said,We are taking the body to Kolkata. It is customary to perform ones last rites in their hometowns,in the presence of their chelas,so everybody can pay their respects. Meanwhile,police said they are questioning the two persons who were arrested in the case. We arrested a person responsible for putting up the pandal and an electrician. They said that it was an accident,and they had done their job properly. We are investigating all angles, the officer said. Police said a special team will visit the spot on Wednesday for further investigation.
