Two dead after e-rickshaw overturns, dumper runs over them in North Delhi

Two people died and two others were left injured after the e-rickshaw they were travelling in overturned and they were run over by a dumper truck, in North Delhi’s Burari at Pushta Road, officers said on Tuesday.

Police said they received a PCR call at 11:05 PM on Monday that an e-rickshaw had overturned and one person had died on the spot and three sustained injuries. A local police team immediately rushed to the spot and moved the woman and two other injured persons to the trauma centre for serious injuries. “One of the injured succumbed to injuries at the hospital…preliminary investigation revealed that the passengers after their e-rickshaw overturned, were run over by a speeding vehicle, possibly a dumper,” said police.

The deceased was identified as Sanjeev, a resident of Swaroop Nagar. He worked as a catering contractor and was driving the e-rickshaw during the incident. Another deceased was identified as Amar Singh, 36.

DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi said that among the injured was a 45-year-old woman who was travelling with the e-rickshaw driver. “She is a cook and a team has been sent for her identification. Another injured has been identified as Pappu, 45, who also works with a catering company. “All four were returning from catering work at Jahangirpuri.
The DCP said that the two injured persons are in serious condition. Sanjeev is survived by his wife and three children. Details of Amar Singh are yet to be ascertained.
