According to Piyush Goyal, who held power portfolio till recently, India aims to become 100 per cent e-vehicle nation by 2030. Union transport minister Nitin Gadkari has asked automobile manufacturers in the country to go for eco-friendly alternative fuels, else he would 'bulldoze' them.
The Delhi government had in 2015 announced a subsidy of Rs 15,000 to owners of newly-purchased battery-operated e-rickshaw which are authorised and registered by the Transport Department. The subsidy amount was revised to Rs 30,000 for the e-rickshaws which were bought after 2016.
The registration process and payment of the subsidies for e-rickshaws is being simplified by the Delhi government in order to promote eco-friendly three -wheelers used by the commuters for short distances. The report is presently under consideration.
