Two Delhi policemen on beat duty rescued two children and a man from a burning building in Malviya Nagar Friday.
The Police Control Room had received a call regarding the fire at 2.28 pm on the third floor of a building. Head Constables Narender and Kapil Rathi, who were on beat duty nearby, rushed to the spot to help with the fire-tending.
Upon reaching the spot, the duo noticed that the entire building was filled with smoke and the flames on the third floor were high. The front portion of the flat was engulfed in flames, said police.
The two policemen helped in vacating the building while fire tenders began to douse the blaze. In the meantime, the cops were notified that two children — aged four and seven — and a man were still trapped on the third floor.
“Without wasting time they showed their presence of mind and broke the back side of the wall of the flat and entered the room without fear for their lives,” said DCP (South) Ankit Chauhan. The two then helped the three people come out of the flat safely.
“With the presence of mind and brave act of courage, precious lives were saved. They are being rewarded for this valiant act,” said DCP Chauhan.
