Two boys aged 9 and 10 ‘slit youth’s throat’

Police said the boys were ragpickers and could be involved in substance abuse.

Two boys, aged 9 and 10, allegedly murdered a 23-year-old-youth by slitting his throat with a broken beer bottle after an argument broke out between them. Police said the incident took place late on Saturday in Southeast Delhi’s Govindpuri area.

Police said the two boys were ragpickers and were found to be involved in substance abuse.

They were apprehended and sent to a correctional home. An inquiry has been initiated under the Juvenile Justice Act.

According to police, the victim identified as Sanjay — a florist in the area — was drinking when the two boys approached him asking him for money.

Sanjay allegedly slapped one of the boys because they were refusing to move away.

The boys became violent. Police said they broke the bottle Sanjay was drinking from and slit his throat after a scuffle broke out between the two parties.

Sanjay was bleeding profusely tried to escape but collapsed midway.

Passersby rushed him to hospital where he was declared brought dead. Police said the two juveniles were known to Sanjay because they live in the same area.
