A head constable was killed after a truck rammed his bike on the Palam flyover, the Delhi police said. Amit Shantipal, 40, who was posted in West Delhi district, was taken to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital where he was declared brought dead.

“A PCR call was received at Delhi Cantt police station regarding a Platina bike being hit by a truck around 2:07 am on Friday and the bike rider being severely injured,” a police official said, adding the truck and its driver were both at the spot when the cops arrived. A case for rash driving and death by negligence has been registered against the truck driver, 23-year-old Salman Ahmad. A Dwarka resident, Ahmad was coming from the IGI Airport’s side when the Haryana-registered truck collided with Shantipal’s bike, a police official said. The truck was going towards Palam.

Shantipal, who belongs to Jhajhhar in Haryana, is survived by his wife, an 11-year-old son, his mother and an elder brother. “The body has been handed over to the family after post-mortem,” a police official said.

The truck has been seized and further investigation is underway, the police said.
