The Noida police have twice asked the accused in a theft case to re-enact the whole crime in their presence, to match it with footage captured on CCTV camera in Noida’s Sector 9 furniture market on the day of the crime. However, despite this the police is yet to establish a link between the crime and the suspect.
However, the residents of the area cry foul. The incident dates back to September 15, when jewellery worth Rs 2.5 lakh and Rs 50,000 in cash was stolen from Diya Ram Yadav’s residence in Sector 9, Noida.
Yadav said that though the incident was captured by the CCTV, the police took 18 days to register an FIR.

In the original footage a man with a pair of spectacles is seen going inside Yadav’s house and carrying a trunk outside his home on the intervening night of September 15 and 16. Yadav says that his wife was sleeping at home when the incident happened.
“The thief breaks into the house and it seems that he sprayed something. The suitcase that he was carrying was kept at one end of the house and he stole it without waking up any of the residents,” said Yadav.
He added that they lodged a police complaint the next day, but the FIR was not registered despite CCTV footage available to support his claim. He claimed that it was only at his senior officer’s behest that an FIR was registered on October 3.
“The suspect was asked to re-enact the whole scene twice on separate days and it matched with the original video. The police did not even see the CCTV footage of the re-enacted scene. I don’t understand why police is not taking any action,” says Yadav.
The police, however, said that they are yet to establish any link with the suspect from that of the man seen in the CCTV footage. “On October 15, the suspect was asked to re-enact the whole scene, but we were not convinced as the timing was not correct. We asked him do it again on the wee hours of October 21 to match the timings. However, it seems that he did not commit it,” said Dhul.
He added, “It is the first time that this kind of investigation has been done, but we cannot arrest a person merely on the basis of suspicion. An innocent person should not be arrested for a crime he has not committed,” he added.
