TCS staffer fakes his kidnapping to extort family, arrested: Noida Police
On Tuesday, Shubham was arrested by the Thana Expressway police for allegedly staging his own kidnapping earlier this month. Two of his associates, Sandeep and Ankit Kumar from Ateli district in Haryana, have been detained, said police.

Soon after Shubham Gaur, a resident of Noida’s Sector 134, joined Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) as an engineer, he realised that his salary of Rs 25,000 was not sufficient to sustain his desire for expensive liquor and drugs. While he approached his father and grandfather for money, they both refused. In desperation, Shubham, along with his friends, allegedly hatched a plan to stage his own kidnapping and extort money from his family.
On Tuesday, Shubham was arrested by the Thana Expressway police for allegedly staging his own kidnapping earlier this month. Two of his associates, Sandeep and Ankit Kumar from Ateli district in Haryana, have been detained, said police.
Noida Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Manish Kumar Mishra, said that Shubham’s family had filed a complaint on September 10 after he went missing. “Soon after, the family received a call from Shubham’s phone and his ‘kidnappers’ asked for Rs 50 lakh as ransom to set him free,” he added.
Mishra said that during questioning, Shubham said he had planned the fake kidnapping about a month ago. “He claimed that his father and grandfather refused to give him money, so he decided to get it another way.”
Shubham allegedly went on to hatch a conspiracy to extort money with his friend Udho, a resident of Gwalior. They roped in his other friends — Ankit, Sandeep and Deepak, all residents of Haryana — who were also in need of money. “Ankit needed to pay off a personal loan… others too needed money, so they went along with Shubham,” said Mishra.
“On September 10, the five hired a Brezza car and reached Rewari. They then called Shubham’s parents from his phone to demand the ransom,” he said, adding that Thana Expressway police traced the suspects to Haryana and brought them back to Noida.
