According to the complaint filed by victim Manoj Kumar’s younger brother Vicky Kumar (40), the incident occurred around 1 am on September 22, when Manoj and six of his friends were returning from Vrindavan.

While Manoj and three others were in a car, two of his friends, Navdeep and Aman, were riding a motorcycle. Near Sector 13, a Thar hit the bike. As Navdeep and Aman approached the vehicle, a passenger allegedly abused them. The duo then got back on the bike and rode towards Ballabgarh, but the Thar overtook them, with the driver abusing them again.

Following this, Thar turned towards a convention hall at Sector 12, where Navdeep and Aman stopped. Manoj and his other friends also arrived there by car. The complaint claimed that the Thar driver was “doing stunts with his vehicle” at the time. When Manoj and his friends got out, the driver allegedly drove the car towards them. White Manoj was run over, the Thar’s occupants drove away.

On Tuesday, while police had said that they have apprehended four persons in the case, only three have been arrested so far.

When asked, DCP Usha said, “The fourth accused, too, will be questioned and probed further. Call data and CCTV records have not proved his role in the matter yet… but when we have evidence, he, too, will be produced before court.”

Maintaining that none of the four have been deemed innocent by the police, the DCP added, “Our investigation is on. We are not saying more about the accused for security reasons. Speculating anything regarding this sensitive case, or attributing roles before we know more, will be wrong.”

Vicky, a commission agent at a mandi, said Manoj was cremated late Tuesday. “I have come to Soronji Ghat (near Kasganj, Uttar Pradesh) to dip his ashes in the Ganga. We have heard that the fourth one was let off… We will meet the police again tomorrow…,” he added.
