‘Victory of democracy’: Wife Sunita on Arvind Kejriwal’s interim bail

Shortly after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was granted interim bail, Sunita Kejriwal, his wife and the face of AAP’s Lok Sabha campaign, responded with a sincere gratitude while calling the verdict a “victory of democracy.”

Sunita Kejriwal spearheaded the party’s campaigning in Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana and Punjab in the absence of her husband Kejriwal, who was lodged in Tihar jail after getting arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the Delhi excise policy case.

On April 27, the retired Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer held her first roadshow in Delhi. This was her second public appearance in the capital after the INDIA bloc rally in Ramlila Maidan in March, which the party rendered as her “biggest political responsibility” so far, according to insiders.

CM Kejriwal has been granted interim bail till June 1, the last day of voting in the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections.

Among the conditions set by the Supreme Court for his bail are — Firstly, he shall furnish bail bonds in the sum of Rs. 50,000 with one surety of the like amount to the satisfaction of the Jail Superintend. Secondly, he shall not visit the CM office and the Delhi Secretariat. Thirdly, he will not make any comment on his role in the case, and lastly, Kejriwal will not interact with witnesses or have access to any official files connected with case.
