A 28-year-old engineering graduate arrested for stabbing stray dogs in south Delhi’s Green Park himself collected the dogs’ medical report from the clinic where they were treated after the attack, sources said. He accompanied members of an NGO, who were unaware that he was the attacker, to the clinic.
Sources said the accused, Nakul Mishra, used to feed the dogs at a point outside the Green Park Metro station, where he allegedly stabbed them past midnight on March 14. Acquaintances knew him as a ‘dog lover’ who picked up malnourished and injured stray dogs and took them to his rented accommodation in Yusuf Sarai for treatment. He also took them to veterinarians, said sources.

People from Gautam Nagar and Yusuf Sarai come to feed street dogs outside the Green Park Metro station. Mishra and his woman friend were also seen feeding the dogs several times, said sources. After the body of a puppy was spotted on the stairs of the Metro station on March 15, shopkeepers nearby informed animal rights activists, including a member of NGO Fauna Police. They went to the police station and lodged an FIR.
Sources said Mishra was not seen near the station for the next two days, and when he appeared again, his beard was gone.
Fifteen days after the incident, he also vacated his house. His landlord said he never showed signs of such behaviour. “In fact, he would keep the dogs in his house. His friend also came to help him.” The complainant, a shopkeeper, said, “He often fed the dogs outside my shop.”
Mishra was arrested from Lucknow Friday. Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (south) Nupur Prasad said he was taken for medical check-up. “The report from AIIMS is awaited,” said Prasad. Mishra was produced before a court Saturday and was granted bail.
