A senior police officer said, “The letter asks the Delhi Metro for details regarding the contractor to whom the tender for the construction of the structure was given and when the work took place.” (Representational Photo)A day after a concrete slab of a platform at Gokulpuri Metro station collapsed and fell on a man, leading to the death of the 53-year-old, Delhi Police has written to the Delhi Metro seeking details on when the slab was constructed and the contractor to whom the work was assigned.
A senior police officer said, “The letter asks the Delhi Metro for details regarding the contractor to whom the tender for the construction of the structure was given and when the work took place.”
The letter further asked the Metro authorities to respond regarding safety precautions taken and enquiry checks carried out of the said structure on a weekly basis, the duration during which the construction took place, and whether it was “done hurriedly”.
Said an officer, “We have asked the DMRC to submit the name of the contractor once their internal enquiry is concluded, following which the person will be called for questioning.”
Delhi Police has lodged a case under IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) against Delhi Metro builders and contractors, currently unnamed, at the Gokulpuri police station.
Besides deceased Vinod Pandey, four other men sustained injuries in the accident on Thursday.
