Traffic on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway was affected from morning till late afternoon on Tuesday when a sewage pipe burst in the area. The water from the pipeline not only submerged the service lane but also over-flowed onto the Expressway. The main carriageway was inundated in the morning. Illegal digging into the line by a private company is alleged to the reason behind the burst. Massive traffic jams were witnessed on the Expressway till the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA),along with the private concessionaire DSC Ltd managed to contain the situation by late afternoon. Taking note of the situation,HUDA administrator Praveen Kumar has said an First Information Report (FIR) will be lodged against the persons responsible. How can they excavate without informing the authorities. After the line was punctured there was a futile attempt to control the situation by the private company, said Kumar. According to a statement issued by the private concessionaire DSC Ltd,both service lane and the main carriageway were filled with the sewage water. Four pumps have been in operation since morning (two belonging to HUDA and two of DSC Limited) to drain out the excess water. Water from the main carriageway was cleared by early afternoon and water from the service lane is in the process of being cleared out and should be completely removed in the next one hour, read the statement. Despite tall claims by the DSC Ltd and the civic agencies,Hero Honda Chowk has become a perennial trouble spot practically with the service lanes inundated under foot-deep sewage water, posing health hazard for the shop owners and villagers living along the stretch.
