It is universally acknowledged that every theatre actor in India must dream of being in Bollywood. Now,an acting workshop by the Actor Factor Theatre Company incorporates both the stage and screen in one syllabus.

The workshop, called Chameleon Actor, includes Mumbai showbiz regulars with experience in theatre — Vineet Kumar (Drohkal,Bandish,Aks),Rajesh Tailang (Mangal Pandey,Dev) — and television personality Umesh Padalkar. Kumar, also a speech specialist who has trained Manoj Bajpai, will share his expertise with the participants, while Padalkar will conduct sessions on how theatre actors can adapt to the camera. “What does an actor do when the performance space shifts from the stage to a movie or television set where there is a boom dangling overhead and the action takes place on a moving trolley? We try to answer all these questions,” says Sinha, about the 15-day workshop.

Aditi Biswas of the National School of Drama will teach actors on various theatre sets and how to modify their performances accordingly. But one of the biggest hits of the workshop is likely to be Manipuri thang-ta artist Mutum Ibomcha,a veteran of more than 300 martial art performances across the world. “The body is an important part of acting, and we’re not talking just about six-pack abs. Can an actor modify his body language as per the director’s whim?” asks Ibomcha. These are the tricks that turn actors into stars and you might just pick up some here.

The workshop will be held from August 16 to 30 at the Lok Kala Manch (behind India Habitat Centre). Fee: Rs 8,500 per person. Contact: 9313017202,9871777587
