A festival of award-winning films from Iran is part of the countrys National Day celebrations in the Capital. Though there is no work of Jafar Panahi, whose political films have recently resulted in him being arrested for six years, there are other examples of New Wave cinema from the country that showcase a history of turmoil and contemporary struggles. Mohammed Hosseins Third Day,for instance,is about a girl who is captured by Iraqi forces during the Iraq-Iran conflict of the late 1980s. Tahmini Milanis The Hidden Half revolves around a woman political prisoner who has been handed a death sentence. The festival has been organised by Cine Darbaar.
The festival will be held at the Iran Culture House on Sunday. Entry is Free
