DPS Society celebrates 60 years of excellence
An Education Conference was organised on December 7 at the Siri Fort Auditorium as a part of the celebrations to observe the completion of 60 years of providing quality education by the Delhi Public School (DPS) Society. The conference was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Tejendra Khanna. The foundation of the DPS Society was laid in 1937,and the DPS family now comprises 129 schools from across the world. The programme commenced with a choir song by students from various DPS schools,followed by the lighting of the lamp. Singing prodigy Diwakar Sharma enthralled the audience with the song,Kal ho na ho,following which the chairman,Ashok Chandra,welcomed the guests and presented a brief overview of the conference. He stated that providing education of the highest quality was the mission of DPS Society. The chief guest,Tejendra Khanna,delivered the inaugural address. He highlighted the importance of interactive learning and stressed on teaching skill building and value-based commitment to the students. Lt Gen J S Bawa (Retd),member,DPS Society,was the convenor of the conference. Salman Khurshid,former president,DPS Society; Narendra Kumar,former chairman,DPS Society,and B P Khandelwal,member,DPS Society,were present on the occasion. They discussed the need for education to alleviate poverty,besides Right to Education and other issues. S L Dhawan,Treasurer,DPS Society,was also present.The plenary session was chaired by Pramod Grover,Vice Chairman of DPS Society. A brief overview was given by Renu Mital,Director of DPS Society. Lt General J S Bawa chaired the valedictory session. Dr Usha Luthra,member,DPS Society,spoke on need for strengthening and formalising health promotion.
The day culminated with a cultural extravaganza,the chief guest of which was none other than Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
Literary week at Apeejay School,Pitampura
Apeejay School,Pitampura,celebrated its annual literary week from November 15 to 22 with an aim to tap,recognise and nurture the potential of students. It also held events to promote their reading habit,creative thinking and the ability to express themselves. The week was inaugurated by principal D K Bedi with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. During the week-long programme,many inter-school and inter-class competitions such as book discussions,debates,character dramatisation events,street plays,creative writin g contests,etc,were held. These competitions gave ample scope to students of varied talents to come up and display their language as well as artistic skills. Several leading schools from Delhi and NCR participated in these activities,and showcased the multifaceted talents of their students. Eminent journalists and educationists were invited to judge the talent of the students. The overall trophy of the literary week was won by Lancers Convent,Rohini,for its brilliant performance during the week.
Summerfields School shines at CBSE heritage quiz
Summerfields School is shining once again at the CBSE Heritage India Zonal Quiz. It qualified for the zonal round and has been selected for the nationals (final round). Six schools participated in the event held at Delhi Public School Sector-45 on December 3,of which four were schools from Gurgaon (Summerfields,Delhi Public School Sec-45,CCA,Amity Sec-46) and two from Chandigarh (Bharti Vidya Bhawan,St Paul School). Three rounds were held for three schools in each group. The students who won laurels for the school are Rajesh Mishra,Aditya Rajan and Kanishk Aggarwal.
Mathematics in Beauty:An exhibition at Apeejay,Saket
The students of Class X and XI undertook an extensive study of the Existence of the golden ratio in nature and architecture of monuments from places across the world .The students,through this study,established a direct relationship between the golden ratio and the symmetry that leads to beauty in nature and anthropogenic architecture. The project,titled Mathematics in Beauty,was part of the International School Award ( ISA) initiated by the British Council. They held an exhibition at the school for their parents on Saturday,November 20,to highlight their findings. The chief guest,Dr Hukum Singh,Head,Department of Mathematics,NCERT,expressed appreciation for the innovativeness of the students in his speech.
Drishti:An insight into a childs mind
In Order to empower parents with an insight into their childrens minds,Bosco Public School,Sunder Vihar,Paschim Vihar,organised Drishti,an effective parenting workshop on December 4. The programme took off with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp,followed bythe Sarv Dharm Prithana,presented by tiny tots from the Montessory wing of the school. School manager Rajeev Duggal,in his welcome address,emphasised the need to use distilled parenting techniques for the upbringing of a child in todays age. It was followed by a school profile,presented by principal Rupam Sah,wherein she spoke on the activities and achievements of the school for the academic session 2010-11.
The guest of honour,Dr Aruna Broota,a renowned child psychologist and president of Sambhavtha,a non-governmental organisation, delivered a talk on the need to understand a child. In her discourse,Dr Broota spoke on the complexities of child psychology,effective parenting and ways to deal with various issues that come up while raising a child.
Sports Day celebrated at Mount Carmel,Anand Niketan
Mount Carmel School celebrated its Sports Day with great fanfare on December 3 and 4. The junior wing of Mount Carmel School opened the ceremony in a spectacular way,dazzling the audience. The chief guest for the occasion was Brother Rajkumar,who delivered a godly message for the children. The celebrations began with a solemn word of prayer,followed by track and field events where budding athletes tried their best to outdo each. The chief guest felicitated students who had excelled in various fields during the previous session. The celebrations ended on a high note,with students participating in various cultural events. The senior school gave a scintillating and colourful performance,bringing joy to every heart and reminding them about the love of God.
