Workshop on student health management system at DPS RK Puram
Delhi Public School,R K Puram,held a workshop on the Student Health Management System on September 15. A DPS Society initiative,it was attended by 60 teachers from various Delhi Public Schools,along with doctors,counsellors and technical professionals. Dr Usha Luthra,member of DPS Society and DPS RK Puram managing committee chaired the workshop.
The Student Health Management System is an attempt to keep a record of each students health. Dr Luthra,in her address,stressed on the importance of such a record since health occupies a priority while dealing with any aspect of a childs life. This interactive workshop was the culmination of many sessions to perfect the health module,so that a clear health record of the student from nursery to XII standard could be maintained.
The Business Studies Department of Delhi Public School RK Puram organised a workshop for school teachers on September 18. The objective was to discuss measures to update the teaching methodology of business studies. Around 20 teachers from various schools attended the event. Eminent experts from the NCERT including Dr Minoo Nandrajog,who has been associated with the NCERT for the past 22 years as a Reader in the Department of Education in Social Sciences and Humanities; Dr G L Tayal,an Associate Professor in the Department of Commerce,Ramjas College,University of Delhi and Dr M M Goyal,who has been associated with Delhi University for the last 36 years and is currently teaching at PGDAV College conducted the workshop.
Eco-Club members take up awareness campaign
Eco-Club Vasudha of St Marks Senior Secondary Public School,Janakpuri,has been working tirelessly to improve the fast-degrading environmental conditions.
They have initiated various environment friendly activities such as tree plantation,campaigns against noise and air pollution and awareness campaigns like No plastic for me,Say no to crackers,and a cleanliness drive with the adoption of the Janakpuri district park by the school.
The club has joined hands with The Art of Living in its Clean Delhi-NCR Drive campaign,for which the school has adopted A3 block of Janakpuri for spreading awareness to keep its surroundings clean.
The campaign was undertaken by Manager LK Rai,Principal Rama Sethi,Vice Principal Alka Kher,Eco-Club coordinators Archana Tyagi and Neha Sarin. They all marched along with the students,carrying banners,placards and flyers for spreading awareness on cleaning up the surroundings.
S S Duggal,President Public Welfare Forum,and senior citizens of the area also joined in the campaign.
Spreading the good word on World Ozone Day
Ramjas School,Pusa Road,organised a special assembly to mark World Ozone Day on September 16. Ozone awareness is the need of the hour to protect our health as well as the environment.
The special assembly conducted by students of class XI ScA included a popular science talk on the ozone theme,which aimed at sensitising the students on the science of the ozone layer and its importance in saving life on Earth. They performed a skit to create awareness on the causes for depletion of the earths ozone layer,and followed it up with a brilliant recital of An earth song. Display boards were also prepared to highlight the protection provided by ozone and how CFCs were making Ozzy Ozone weaker with each passing day.
Salwan Gurgaon to make presence felt during CWG
Salwan Public School ,Gurgaon,is all set to make its mark on an international platform with 300 of its students from classes V-XII performing at the Commonwealth Games on October 3,2010 . The lyrics of the song Yeh hai 2010,bhul ke sub kuch khelo bus depict the spirit of the Games and the enthusiasm of Indians to host such a mega event.
The music and dance faculty of the Salwan Public School had undertaken the creative initiative to write the lyrics and choreograph the song. A post graduate in Kathak,Kamaljeet,head of Music and Dance Department,was inspired to compose the song two years ago when the school released their publication Salwan Times with the CWG as its theme.
Birla Vidya Niketan celebrates its 27th foundation day
Birla Vidya Niketan celebrated its 27th foundation day on September 20. Dr Minoti Chatterjee,principal,Kamala Nehru College,University of Delhi,was the chief guest. The distinguished gathering included the members of the managing committee,school authorities,guests and parents. The programme commenced with the traditional lighting of the lamp,followed by the Saraswati Vandana. The junior school presented a dance drama Save Yamuna and a kaleidoscope of diverse Indian classical dances in Glimpse of India while the senior school choir strung the mellifluous chords of peace and harmony in We are the world.
School principal SV S Bhandari congratulated the faculty and the students for their outstanding performance in academics,cultural activities and sports while reading out the annual school progress report. Meritorious students were felicitated and scholarships were given to consistent performers as well as stream toppers.
Dr Minoti Chatterjee exhorted the assemblage to work towards promoting gender sensitisation,inculcating values,striving for peace and broadening the horizons of ones conscience.
Visit to paper recycling unit
Students of GD Salwan Public School,Rajendra Nagar,visited the recycling unit at Delhi Secretariat in association with the Department of Environment,NCT Delhi,under ISA activity. Students of classes VI to VIII,along with the waste audit team of the green school programme,witnessed various paper recycling processes such as sorting,chopping,dusting,pulping,sheet formation,pressing,drying,calendaring and cutting.
Students got a hands-on experience of the process. They could differentiate between the handmade paper prepared by them in the school and the recycled paper produced by the machine.
Grandparents felicitated
Students of the Poorna Prajna Public School,Vasant Kunj,celebrated Grandparents Day on September 12,exhibiting an enthusiastic display of joy and festivity. Grandparents joined in the celebrations and participated wholeheartedly. The students were advised to value the importance of family as a social unit and show respect to senior citizens. Prizes were given out and grandparents were bestowed with titles like Mr and Mrs Pleasant Personality,Mr & Mrs Most Talented and Grandparents of the Day. The celebration ended with all the invitees taking to the dance floor.
