Bal Bharati Public School,GRH Marg,organised an inter-school science symposium to celebrate the International Year of Chemistry on Friday,April 29,2011. The symposium was held under the aegis of the International School Award (ISA) activities in the school. The venue for the competition,the senior library,was tastefully decorated — giving a very distinct feel of the subject,chemistry,to the visitors. The colourful display boards highlighted the contributions of the Nobel laureates of chemistry,amazing facts as well as the origin of the subject. All the 12 participating teams,from different schools in Delhi,put up a brilliant show. Each team comprised two students who had prepared a PowerPoint presentation on any one of the five carefully selected topics,namely,environmental impact of the pH balance; Graphenes: The wonder material; Chemistry of warfare; Nanotechnology in everyday life,and Green chemistry —the road ahead. The eminent judges for the day were Suraj Prakash,former principal,CRPF Public School and currently an advisor to the Child Education Society,the apex body of Bal Bharati Public Schools across India. He is also a correspondent scientist for the Science Museum at Houston,US,and B N Mehrotra,a seasoned educationist,and a subject expert with the CBSE and NCERT. Speaking on the occasion,the two judges congratulated the school for organising this innovative and creative activity. They appreciated the educative and informative presentations prepared by the participants. The judges had a tough time selecting the winners. The first prize was bagged by a team from the host school —BBPS,GRH Marg — itself. The second prize was won by Apeejay School,Pitampura while a team from St Thomas School was awarded the third prize. The vote of thanks was proposed by the vice principal of the school,Geeta Gangwani. She emphasised on the fact that “chemistry is a science of observation and can be learnt best by doing”. She added that a series of events would be organised by different departments of the school to celebrate the Year of Chemistry as well as enhance students’ awareness on the latest developments in the field of Chemistry and its application in day-to-day life.

Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan celebrates Earth Day

The Eco-Club of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Mehta Vidyalaya celebrated Earth Day on April 21,2011. It started off with a speech in the assembly,which emphasised on ‘Saving Mother Earth’ in various ways such as saving energy,conserving water,growing more trees,reducing,reusing,recycling,water and soil pollution. A pledge was taken by the student and staff on ways to protect our planet. After the assembly,students and staff members took a walk around the school premises. The walk,flagged off by Principal Rekha Sharma,had students carrying placards and banners that shouted slogans like ‘Save Earth’,‘Plant trees’,‘Conserve energy’,etc. The students celebrated the day by wearing beautiful caps with green slogans. Later,an exhibition on the subject was held at the school. The students designed a card that advocated saving the planet. It was signed by staff members of the school.. Eco-friendly paper,jute and cloth bags were made by students and distributed among staff members in order to promote their usage. A few bulletin boards on the above-mentioned topics were displayed at various corners of the school. Saplings were planted in the school garden by eco-club members. A poster-making competition was also taken up at the end of the day. The theme of the competition was ‘Forests: Nature at its service’. The entire event was organised by Coordinator of Eco-Club Punam Sharma,supporting teacher Ragini Srivastava and student-members of Eco-Club. In the end,everybody was made to understand that ‘everyday is Earth Day’.

KG graduation ceremony at RD Rajpal Public School

The kindergarten section of RD Rajpal Public School held its graduation ceremony,with well-known academician S K Arora and S S Yadav as the chief guests. The programme started off with the lighting of the lamp by chairman Ishwar Rajpal,principal Alka Kshatriya and chief guests. The students of the pre-primary wing presented a mesmerising performance. The whole school was beautifully decorated with flowers,balloons and rangolis to welcome the guests and the parents. There was a cultural programme presented by the students,which included dances to the beats of ‘Bum Bum Bole’,‘Chun Chun Chirya’ and many more. Yoga and musical beats by the school band and the choir enthralled the audience. The musical ballet ‘Krishna Leela’ by the nursery students captivated the hearts of all the people present there. A fabulous skit,titled ‘Ghamandi Hathi’,delivered a clear message that was appreciated by the audience. The cultural programme ended with a bhangra performance by the tiny tots,which won the audience’s appreciation.

Annual prize distribution at Ramjas School

Ramjas School,Pusa Road,observed its annual day on March 21 in the school premises. The day started with the school choir invoking goddess Saraswati,followed by a warm welcome to all the parents and guests. Students who excelled in the annual examination were awarded merit certificates and Reebok watches. Subject toppers were also honoured with certificates. The unique feature of the school was the recognition given to the class teachers for the exceptional handling of the class in the academic year. The best class was judged on various parameters,and the teacher as well as the students were awarded with cash prizes. This feature of the school acts as a great morale booster for teachers,motivating them to show more dedication and commitment. The children felt motivated when the school ground echoed with loud applause from classmates and parents. The highlight of the day was an address by the principal,Mohini Bindra,wherein she accentuated the need for greater stress on co-scholastic skills as they now had equal weightage as scholastic skills. She also drove home the message that nothing can replace hard work and regularity.

St Mark’s School celebrates Eco Vision-2011

St Mark’s Sr Sec Public School,Meera Bagh,celebrated Eco Vision-2011 by motivating the public to work towards ensuring a greener Earth. The occasion saw students from all the three branches of St Mark’s School participating in a week-long plethora of activities. For the primary classes,there was a fancy dress competition,a drawing and painting competition,an environment-based quiz and a competition. Students of Classes VI to VIII participated in collage making,declamation and a poster-making competition. There were powerpoint presentations,a quiz on the theme of bio-diversity and a competition aimed at designing stamps on the flora and fauna. Senior students participated in essay-writing and poetry-illustration competitions.
