Satish Golcha takes over as DG Prisons as Sanjay Beniwal retires

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena formally appointed AGMUT cadre officer Satish Golcha as the Director General (Prisons), according to an official communication.

This comes after Sanjay Beniwal, the outgoing officer at the post, retired on Tuesday. Golcha was currently deputed as Special CP (Intelligence) with the Delhi Police. He was previously posted in Arunachal Pradesh and was Special CP (Law and Order, Zone 2) of Delhi Police before that.

During Beniwal’s tenure, the Tihar prison was rocked by the death of Tillu Tajpuria by rival members of the Jitender Gogi gang — the former was stabbed around 90 times inside the high-security prison even as jail officials looked on. Three ministers of the Aam Aadmi Party — AAP MP Sanjay Singh, Deputy CM Manish Sisodia and CM Arvind Kejriwal — were sent to judicial custody during his tenure.
