A video of a scuffle near a concert venue in Dwarka, which has gone viral on social media, has prompted the Delhi Police to register an FIR in an alleged case of road rage.

Police said the incident took place on the night of November 2, when the complainant, Rohit – an advocate – along with another man and two women, was returning after attending singer Talwinder’s concert in Dwarka Sector 10 in a car.

Around 10.30 pm, when the car – a vehicle registered in Punjab and allegedly being driven on the wrong side of the road – was moving through heavy traffic near the concert venue, it reportedly grazed another vehicle.

“A heated argument ensued between both parties, which was captured on camera and circulated online,” said an officer. An FIR was registered into the matter on November 3, the officer added.

The one-minute-long video showed a man, later identified as Puneet – from the second vehicle – slamming his wrist on the bonnet of Rohit’s car, and kicking the driver’s side door while using abusive language.

The man, who posted the video, captioned it saying that his brother-in-law, a Military Engineering Serviceman, was attempting to take his pregnant wife to a nearby hospital for a routine check-up when the incident occurred. While the man admitted that his brother-in-law was driving on the wrong side of the road, he claimed that neither did anyone help them nor did the police register an FIR against the aggressor.

The police, however, said the claims made in the video was incorrect and done with the aim to “sensationalise” the incident.

Based on Rohit’s complaint, a case was registered at Dwarka South police station on charges of voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint and mischief of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita
