‘Thugs… nothing makes any difference to them’: Assaulted biker plans to leave Gurgaon

Hardik Sharma, who suffered injuries in the attack by four men near the Dwarka Expressway, said his family demanded that he quit motorbiking and leave Gurgaon

Gurgaon biker assaultedSharma was allegedly assaulted on Sunday morning by four men who were travelling in an SUV that drove recklessly past him and his group of fellow bikers who were en route towards Manesar.

Hardik Sharma (27) has started packing his stuff. His parents want him to leave Gurgaon and quit biking after he was assaulted last week near Dwarka Expressway. “Anywhere but here (Gurgaon)… my parents will not let me live in this city. It is already decided (for me). Once and for all, no bikes, too, they (parents) said. I have begun packing, I will be moving right away,” he said.

In a widely shared video on social media, four men were seen assaulting Sharma, who works as a software developer with a popular food delivery app, when he was out with a bikers’ group last Sunday. They were going to Manesar on their sports bikes for breakfast – such outings were a routine for them.

The group, however, was left shocked when the four men travelling in an SUV began hurling abuses at them before they pulled over the car and thrashed Sharma, allegedly without provocation. The viral video showed Sharma urging the men to let him go. The accused also allegedly damaged his sports bike.

On Saturday, Sharma, who has been living in Gurgaon since 2023, told The Indian Express that he has decided to return to his hometown of Hisar for now. He revealed that recent medical tests on his injured hand showed the damage was deep. “The doctor said, apart from injuries to the bones, even the bone marrow is injured.”

Amid the outrage over the incident, all four accused were arrested on Tuesday. The accused were identified as Bhanu Sharma (33), a gym owner; Deepak Singh (24), a gym trainer; Pragya Sharma (23), who leases out cricket grounds, and Rajat Singh (24). A city court granted them bail the next day.

Earlier, he had expressed his dissatisfaction with the police for not providing timely updates on the case. He had alleged that it took him 12 hours to get his complaint filed.

“That was on the police. Because if you look at the guys and see what they did, they are goondas (thugs)… partying, bragging, and putting up
(social media) stories… nothing makes any difference to them,” Sharma said.

“If the police are not providing justice, people who are supporting me online should boycott these four men and make them realise (their fault). But the accused are still posting stories, claiming innocence,” he said.

On Thursday, Sharma shared a story on Instagram, uploaded by one of the accused, that allegedly showed all four of them partying.

Sharma said the next date of hearing on the bail pleas is in August. “The accused were hurling false accusations against me at the court. They brought more than 35 guys to intimidate me,” he had earlier said.
